Are you looking for a REALLY fresh tree?
The best way to get a really fresh tree and to have some family fun is to cut your own Christmas tree down yourself!
For a $5 (+GST) permit from Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, you may cut down up to 3 trees in an approved forest area. The permit is now available online Check out this site to purchase a permit, and have a look at the maps to see where you should go!
Other Locations and Ideas
I will say these ones are your true Charlie Brown Christmas tree! But the experience is still really fun for the kids! You can also cut your own Lodgepole Pine Christmas tree by visiting the Alberta Junior Forest Wardens Christmas tree cutting area near Sibbald Creek. Trees cost $5 each (cash or cheque) and on weekends, when the lot is manned, there is a snack shack selling hot dogs and hot chocolate and a big bonfire to warm you up! For more information (including weather closures) and a map to their lot, visit www.jfwa.ca. This program runs from November 26 to December 18 and the lot is manned on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 3 pm, road and weather conditions permitting. You are welcome to cut a tree when the lot is not manned, just bring your $5 and note that you may need to park outside the gate.
